Most courses have opportunities built in to earn extra credit and/or bonus points. As an example, an excerpt from a course is listed below:
Extra Credit Opportunities:
(5 points—must be grammatically correct and contain at least two paragraphs, with a combined total of more than 100 words.)
What was your favorite part of the course? Write summarizing your experiences with this unit of study. Upload to blackboard and post to the class Facebook page when you are done.
Answer the following questions:
- What skills have you acquired, and what do you feel are your strong points?
- What challenges did you encounter, what additional reinforcement is needed, and how can instruction for this unit be improved?
- Evaluate your final project. How do you think it turned out? Does it accurately represent your goals? Do you think it is an effective design? What do you like about the design? What was the most challenging part of designing the project? What would you do differently next time for this project? For a similar project?
Bonus:
- Earn up to 6 additional hours, depending upon the length of the project selected. How? Find an advanced tutorial that teaches you to do something that was not covered in this unit. Topic must be pre-approved by instructor before beginning the tutorial and must be completed accurately in order to receive the bonus hours. Additionally, this bonus offer is available only after all course requirements have been met, with instructor approval.
Examples of topics may include Rotoscoping, Converting 2D graphics to 3D, etc. Resources include the following:
- How to Cheat Tutorial (See instructor)
- Adobe TV Tutorial http://tv.adobe.com/#ch+Education
- Another you find, if pre-approved by instructor
Additional opportunities that may be available to earn extra credit include the following:
- Participation in a project for Business Professionals of America
- Mentoring/Special Project as needed by instructor. For example, each spring we host middle school students from Milwood Arts Academy and/or visit schools to discuss or complete projects related to 3D Animation and Visual FX.
- Time devoted to community service/awareness projects
- Sharing of exceptional, unique, appropriate 3D resources with students/instructor via Twitter each week, logged as ½ hr per resource, 1 posting per week, up to 4 hrs per quarter.
- Posted contest, (if pre-approved) Complete on your own time, up to 3 hrs per quarter.
Creative Challenges
Employers value creativity, which must often be fostered in order to develop. Each quarter on our class web site, there will be a Creative Challenge posted, which is optional, and should be completed on your own time. For your participation—in addition to stimulating and developing your creative abilities, you can earn a bonus hour and will be eligible to earn a prize. If your project is submitted in a timely manner and is selected by the class as most creative, your name will be entered in the drawing twice to be eligible for a prize.
